Behind the glow
Think of it like a light-storing battery. When exposed to UV light (like sunlight), the pigments absorb energy and their electrons shift into a higher energy state. As they return to their normal state, they release that energy as a visible glow.
It’s endlessly rechargeable, with no half-life - meaning it performs consistently for decades without fading. Science, simplicity, and a little everyday magic.

Your jewellery will shine brightest in the first 30 minutes after charging, but the glow can last for up to 10 hours — fading gradually into a soft, subtle light visible only in complete darkness.
The intensity and duration of the glow depends on several factors, including:
- UV strength (natural sunlight works best)
- Exposure time to the light source
- Surface area and depth of the luminous pigment
- The grade of our glow formula
Each piece is carefully crafted to maximise both glow performance and beauty - just the energy of the day flowing into your night.

Not all glows are created equal.
Swiss Super-LumiNova® is available in four performance grades: Standard, Grade A, X1, and X2.
At LU&ME, we use a combination of Standard, X1, and X2 across our pieces - not for cost reasons, but because each glow colour comes with its own technical limits.
Mint-Green: The only colour currently available in the top-tier X2 grade. It offers the brightest and longest-lasting glow.
Aqua-Blue: Available in up to X1 grade — vibrant and long-glowing, especially after strong UV exposure.
Blue-Violet: For now, only available in Standard grade, but still delivers a beautiful, soft glow with a touch of mystery.
We’ll continue evolving as new pigment technology becomes available, so the glow can only get stronger from here.

Colour choices
The ability to Pantone-match colours for the jewellery's daytime appearance is a recent advancement — ideal for design, but not without its challenges.
Naturally, Super-LumiNova pigments have an off-white, slightly greenish hue, which offers the best glow performance but isn’t always visually suited for jewellery. When blended into vibrant colours (or refined for white), some glow intensity is lost. That’s why we went through multiple rounds of sampling — carefully balancing aesthetic finish with luminous performance to get it just right.

Each LU&ME piece begins with a unique, custom-developed formula, produced in small batches exclusively for us. Every application is carried out by hand in-house by our trusted manufacturing team - a process that ensures precise control, attention to detail, and consistency in every piece. From pigment mixing to final curing, nothing is rushed. This hands-on approach allows us to maintain exceptional standards, delivering jewellery that doesn’t just glow, it tells a story of care, craft, and quality.
